Russ Meyer would have been 90 this past week. WW II Veteran, Playboy Photographer, Film Director and Producer, Mr. Bosomania. Russ Meyer was one of a kind. He was all business, the business of Bosomania. It was serious business and if he wasn’t making films he was at his desk, as shown in these photos. I had the pleasure (and misfortune another story) to visit him at home and to photograph him in Los Angeles in the late 80′s. At the time his films we hard to come by and he personally had only one copy of Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, in Betamax version at that. He still had strong resentment about the way BVD had been treated and how he a Roger Ebert were basically blacklisted after the release of that film. He was starting work on his autobiography at this time, which ended up being three thick volumes of the World of Russ Meyer. My portrait of Russ was taken just after he had just said his favorite word “Tits”, which he had a hundred others to describe his favorite pastime, Bosomania.
